Kazakhstan Develops Rare Metals Industry with New Production Lines

(MENAFN) Kazakhstan is set to expand its rare metals industry in 2026 by introducing new production lines for gallium and refined antimony, according to statements made by Industry and Construction Minister Ersayin Nagaspayev on Tuesday.

At a government session, Nagaspayev noted that gallium will be supplied through an offtake agreement between Eurasian Resources Group and Mitsubishi Corporation, signed during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s official visit to Japan in December. Under this contract, the two parties plan to purchase an average of 15 tons of gallium annually over several years, starting in 2026, as reported by media outlets.

Nagaspayev emphasized that developing the rare metals sector offers a major opportunity to diversify the national economy and foster high-tech industries. “Currently, domestic products are export-oriented and used by leading global manufacturers of aviation and marine equipment, aircraft engines, electronics and electric vehicles,” he said.

He added that other products, including technical selenium and high-purity manganese sulfate monohydrate, are also utilized in alternative energy technologies, highlighting Kazakhstan’s growing role in supplying materials for advanced industries.
